Buying Pilates Equipment At Home

Interested in buying your own Reformer but not sure where to start? Here are a number of options ranging in price and possibility. Pick the machine that's best for your budget and your space!

  1. AeroPilates Reformers: These reformers are the most affordable. They have cords for tension, instead of metal springs, but will get the job done. There are a number of price options to choose from. Additionally, one would need to purchase a Box to make it "complete". They can be found at Target, Amazon, and a number of other websites. One note to remember: reformers that are low to the ground can make some of the standing exercises commonly done in Pilates a bit challenging, but there are always ways to adapt when needed.

  2. Balanced Body Reformers: Balanced Body offers a number of Reformers that are similar to the ones seen in studios. The IQ reformer is the most efficient for those lacking space. There are a TON of Reformers to choose from on their site, but the most basic options would be great for anyone's at-home studio. While these reformers are significantly more expensive than the aero options, for at home use, they should last (almost) forever. Machines also have a good resale value should you ever need to sell it, they shouldn’t depreciate too much in value.

  3. Peak Pilates also has a couple of nice at home reformers to choose from as well. Note: Peak is generally a bit more expensive than Balanced Body, but they have some sleek at home versions that are great for conserving space.

Don’t have the space or budget for a reformer? Consider investing in a Chair, Spring Wall or Wall Unit. These are great alternatives for your at home workouts.

  1. Pilates Chair would be the next best piece of equipment in terms of saving money and space. Here's a chair from Peak Pilates at a great price.

  2. If you’re fond of the Cadillac or Tower, a Spring Wall or a full blown Wall Unit are going to be your best bet. It’s great when it comes to conserving space! You have to purchase additional springs to have the whole kit & caboodle, just put out your mat when you’re ready to work out.

  3. Spring Walls offer arm and leg springs in addition to a roll down bar. The most affordable and easy way to mimic the tower, but without the push-thru bar.

  4. Wall Units are more expensive than the spring walls, but have the lovely added benefit of the push thru bar! This would give you that Cadillac feel, but on the floor and super affordable given the amount of capability this unit offers.
